Nelly formed St. Lunatics while in high school together with his friends Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, Ali, and his half-brother City Spud. In 1997, the group became popular locally with their single “Gimme What Ya Got”.

2000-2003 Career

Haynes Jr early 2000s career began well as he released his debut album “Country Grammar”. This album earned Nelly success. He was called to perform as a guest in the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show. His second album Nellyville was released in 2002 and was debuted as no. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Music Albums. The album had hit songs including “Dilemma” (featuring Kelly Rowland), “Hot in Herre” including others. On June 27, 2003, the album was certified 6x multi-platinum making the album highly successful.

2004 -2008
