A Mixed Martial Arts Career

On May 24, 2003, he won his mixed martial arts debut by knockout at HOOKnSHOOT: Absolute Fighting Championships 3. In the main event held on April 30, he fought the Absolute Fighting Championship XII against current UFC competitor and The Ultimate Fighter 5 contestant Joe Lauzon. He won via technical knockout in the second round.

A Bellator Career

In April 2009, Masvidal was signed by Bellator and entered in their lightweight tournament. He won his first fight via TKO in the first round. However, in the semi-finals, he was defeated by Toby Imada at Bellator 5 who won via inverted choke submission in the third round. At Bellator 12, he faced and defeated Eric Reynolds in a 160 lb.

In September 2010, Jorge moved up to the welterweight division to fight Paul Daley at Shark Fights 13 in Amarillo, Texas. He was defeated by Daley via unanimous decision. After this performance, he signed with Strikeforce.

A Career in 2013

In January 2013, following the dissolution of Strikeforce, Jorge was brought over to the UFC. And on April 20, 2013, he made his debut against Tim Means at UFC on Fox 7. He was successful in his debut as he won the fight via unanimous decision. At UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 on November 6, 2013, Jorge faced Rustam Khabilov. But lost back-and-forth via unanimous decision. Despite losing, the match earned him his first Fight of the Night.

At UFC on Fox 11, Masvidal fought longtime veteran Pat Healy. He won the fight by unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 29–28). On July 26, 2014, he faced Daron Cruickshank at UFC on Fox 12. Despite being dropped by a punch in the first round, he went ahead and won the fight via unanimous decision.

On January 18, 2015, he faced Norman Parke at UFC Fight Night 59. But he was pulled out of the match citing an injury and was replaced by Gleison Tibau. In a welterweight bout on July 12, 2015, Masvidal faced Cesar Ferreira at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale. On January 28, 2017, Jorge faced Donald Cerrone at Ufc on Fox 23. In the second round, he won the fight via TKO. This win earned him a second Performance of the Night bonus. At UFC 211, he faced Demian Maia on May 13, 2017, but lost via split decision. He faced Stephen Thompson at UFC 217, on November 4, 2017, but lost via unanimous decision.

On March 16, 2019, he faced Darren Till after a 16-month layoff at UFC Fight Night 147. Although being dropped in the first round, in the second round he won via knockout.
