Robin Roberts Biography

Robin Roberts is an American television journalist. She serves as an anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America. She was the first woman of color and first openly gay woman to host Jeopardy!, an American TV game show.

Initially, she served as a sports anchor for local media houses. From 1990 to 2005, she was a sportscaster on ESPN. She left ESPN in 2005, to join ABC as a co-anchor on Good Morning America. In 2012, Roberts was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and her treatment chronicled on Good Morning America. As a result, it earned Peabody Award in 2012 for the coverage.

Robin was in Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana where she graduated with a degree in communication in 1983. She realized that she had been offered a scholarship to play basketball at Louisiana State University on January 14, 2007, edition of Costas on the Radio. However, she found the school too big and impersonal after her visit to the campus.

Traveling back from Louisiana State University, she noted a road sign for Southeastern Louisiana University and decided to enroll after a visit. However, the scholarship left was only for tennis. Roberts was promised a scholarship in journalism before graduating. Roberts was a top performer on the women’s basketball team. She ended her career as Southeastern Louisiana’s third all-time scorer of 1,146 points and rebounder 1,034. Roberts is among the three lady lions to score 1000 career points and grab 1000 career rebounds. In this period, she managed a career-high 27.6 points per game. The school hosted a ceremony to retire Roberts jersey, number 21 on February 5, 2011.

Robin Roberts Career

In 1983, Roberts began her career as a sports anchor and a reporter for WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She later shifted to WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1984. In 1986, She served as a sports anchor and reporter for WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee. After a while, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked as a sports anchor and reporter at WAGA-TV from the year 1988 to 1990. She was a radio host for radio station V-103 while still in Atlanta.

ESPN

In February 1990, she joined ESPN as a sportscaster where she served until 2005. While still in the Sports center, she repeatedly used the phrase ”Go on with your bad self”. As of June 1995, Roberts fully started working for ABC News, as a reporter for Good Morning America. WBCA presented the Mel Greenberg Media Award to Roberts in 2001.

She both worked equally on ESPN and Good morning America. Roberts served temporarily as a news anchor at GMA during that period of contributing to both programs. She was promoted to co-anchor of Good morning America in 2005. George Stephanopoulos joined Roberts in December 2009, as a co-anchor of GMA after Diane Sawyer left to anchor ABC World News. However, the team that led Good morning America was the Roberts -Stephanopoulos, and the partnership led it back to the top of ratings.

2012-2014

In April 2012, the program topped again in one show and defeated NBC’s Today which in the past 16 years was at the top. Roberts introduced a program of emotional reports from the Mississippi Gulf Coast which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Her residents were difficult to pass Christian because of her high school reduced rubble. She hosted the Academic Awards preshow for ABC on February 22, 2009, and also again on 2011.

During the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the American television actress Roberts anchored it on May 19, 2018, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. She was the recipient of the National Association of Broadcasters Differentiating service Awards. For five episodes airing July 19-23,2021, Roberts served as a guest host on Jeopardy, later the death of Alex Trebek in November 2020.
