Queen Latifah whose birth name is Dana Elaine Owens is an American actress and singer, songwriter, talk show host, and film producer. She is also referred to as the Queen of Rap.

She began her career at the age of 19 and ever since she has released notable musical albums and starred in many films and television shows.

As a result of her great work, she has earned several awards including a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, Grammy Award, and two NAACP Image Awards. She has also had an Academy Award nomination.

Latifah is 52 years old as of 2022. She was born on March 18, 1970, in East Orange, New Jersey. She was born to Rita Lamae and Lancelot Amos Owens. Her mother who died in 2018 was a teacher at Irvington High School. Rita died due to heart failure which she had battled since 2004. Her father was a police officer. Rita and Owens divorced when their daughter was ten years old.

She has an older brother Lancelot Jr. who died from an accident in 1992. The accident involved a motorcycle that Latifah had bought for him.

Being raised in the Baptist faith, Latifah attended Catholic school in Newark, New Jersey, and later Essex Catholic Girls’ High School in Irvington. She later attended Irvington High School where she graduated. After graduating from high school, Latifah attended some classes at Borough of Manhattan Community College.
