A Career at the Ultimate Fighting Championship

While working as a manager for Ortiz and Lidell, he met Bob Meyrowitz, the owner of Semaphore Entertainment Group, the parent company of the UFC. When White learned that Bob was looking to sell the UFC, he contacted his childhood friend Lorenzo Fertitta (an executive and co-founder of Station Casinos and former commissioner of the Nevada State Athletic Commission). He asked him if he was interested in acquiring the company. Thus Lorenzo and his elder brother Frank acquired the UFC in January 2001, for $2 million which subsequently came a subsidiary of Zuffa.

Because of the UFC acquirement, White was installed as the company’s president. White went on to say that when he and the Fertittas acquired the UFC, all they received was the brand name “UFC” and an old octagon. With time, White as president saw the UFC develop into a highly successful business and its gross revenue was $600 million in 2015. The next year, Zuffa was sold to a consortium of investors led by WME-IMG for $4.025 billion. The UFC announced in May 2017, that White would host Dana White’s Contender Series Available exclusively through UFC Fight Pass. On March 18, 2019, he signed a new, seven-year contract to remain president of the UFC, as the UFC signed a deal with ESPN.

In addition to his career at UFC, he entered the boxing scene by co-promoting Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor, due to Conor being contracted to the UFC. White then said in October 2017, at Freddie Roach’s Wild Cars West boxing club that he was “getting into boxing, 100 percent”. Also in 2019, he said that he wanted to incorporate boxing into the company portfolio of the UFC.
