Trevor John Story is a notable American professional baseball shortstop who is a free agent. He has played in MLB (Major League Baseball) for the Colorado Rockies. In 2016, he made his MLB debut. And on April 8, 2016, set an MLB record for a rookie by hitting home runs in each of his first four games. And in the month of April, tied the MLB rookie record for home runs.

A Career in Minor Leagues

He was selected by the Colorado Rockies of MLB as a shortstop in the first round with the 45th overall selection of the 2011 MLB draft. Trevor signed with the Rockies receiving a $915,000 signing bonus. He played after signing for the Casper Ghosts of the Rookie-level Pioneer League, where he batted .268. The story played for the Asheville Tourists of the Class A South Atlantic League (SAL) in 2012. And was named a SAL Postseason All-Star after batting .277 with 18 home runs, 63 runs batted in (RBIs), and 43 doubles, which led all SAL players.

Before the 2013 season, he was ranked as the 99th-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com. After spending a short time in 2014, with the Class A Short Season Tri-City Dust Devils, the Rockies promoted him to the Tulsa Drillers of the Class AA Texas League in June. With the New Britain Rock Cats of the Class AA Eastern League, he started the 2015 season and had a .81 batting average in 300 plate appearances. This made him be promoted to the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League on July 1. After the 2015 season, Story was added by the Rockies to their 40-man roster.

For the beginning of the 2016 season, Jose Reyes was suspended. And Story competed with Christina Adames in order to become the Rockies’ starting shortstop during spring training in 2016. On April 4, he made his major league debut on Opening Day as the Rockies’ starting shortstop against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He recorded his first career hit a three-run home run off Zack Greinke, in his second major league at-bat.

Trevor on his third day in the major leagues, hit a two-run home run off Arizona’s Patrick Corbin, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit a home run in each of his first three games and a home run in each of his first four hits. In the fourth game against the San Diego Padres, he hit two home runs becoming the first rookie to hit home runs in his first four games. And the first player in the major league to hit six home runs in the first four games of any season.

In his sixth game, he hit another home run off Brandon Maurer setting the MLB record for the most home runs (7) in a team’s first six games. Thereby overshadowed the previous record of six home runs in six games set by Larry Walker, Mike Schmidt, and Willie Mays. For the first week of the season, he won the National League Player of the Week Award. In April with ten home runs, he tied the MLB rookie record, previously set by Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox.

And had a .276 BA, with 42 doubles (4th), 37 home runs (2nd in the NL), 168 strikeouts (4th), 108 RBIs (4th), and 27 stolen bases (6th). In the major leagues, he hit the longest home run of the season which was a 505-foot home run at Coors Field.

Story on May 24, 2019, hit his 100th and 101st home runs., to an 8-6 win over the Orioles. This became the fastest shortstop to reach this mark, surpassing Alex Rodriguez, doing so in his 448th game.

Trevor made more defensive errors at shortstop (10) in 2020, more than any other major league shortstop. He led the team in 59 games with 11 home runs and finished second on the team with 28 RBIs. Slightly in 2021, Trevor’s production declined, though not by much. He hit 251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs, in 142 games played including a walk-off homer against the Diamondbacks on May 23.
