Lindsey Jacobellis is a famous American snowboarder from Roxbury, Connecticut. She dominated the snowboard cross for almost two decades, winning X Games 10 times and the world championship 6 times. Early career
Jacobellis won bronze in slopestyle at the 2003 Winter X Games. On February 17, 2006, at the 2006 Winter Olympics during the gold medal final of the Snowboard Cross, she was approaching the end of the course with a 43-meter (140 ft), three-second lead over Tanja Frieden of Switzerland. Jacobellis tried a celebratory method grab on the second-to-last jump, but landed on the edge of her snowboard, and fell. Tanja passed her to take the gold: Lindsey recovered and settled for silver.
Jacobellis lost the lead in a fall near the finish line in Snowboard cross at the 2007 Winter X Games. In 2008, she dropped halfpipe from her competition schedule because of increasing injuries. She regained the gold medal in Snowboard cross at Winter X Games XII in 2008.
2010-2013
Jacobellis did not make it to the medal round of Snowboard Cross at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This was because early in her semi-final race, she landed badly during a jump. She was avoiding a collision with another rider who went through a gate, resulting in an automatic disqualification. Jacobellis slid off the course, ending up 5th in the standings. Later, she won her fourth straight gold in Snowboard cross at the Winter X Games in 2011. This added to her gold medals in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
2014-2017
Lindsey did not progress to the medal round of Snowboard Cross at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She was in the lead in the semi-final race when she crashed and finished 7th in the overall standings. At the 2015 World Championships, she received gold in the Snowboard Cross. Jacobellis also won the 2017 World Championship and completed with a silver and two golds in the first World Cup races of the 2017-2018 season.
2018-present
Jacobellis proceeded to the final of the Snowboard cross at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang County, South Korea. She was leading most of the way, however, she ended up in 4th place by just .003 seconds and yet again off the podium. Lindsey eventually won gold in the Snowboard cross at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. This was the first gold medal for the US in those Olympics. Jacobellis’ story of sporting redemption was recognized as one of the highlights of those games.

Lindsey appeared on a charity edition of MTV’s The Challenge, entitled The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros. She participated to raise money for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Jacobellis completed as the runner-up with her teammate, Kamerion Wimbley in the final challenge. Apart from her athletic skills, Jacobellis is famous for her naturally curly hair and is sponsored by Paul Mitchell.
