Joey Chestnut’s Achievements
Chestnut won the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4, 2007. Joey defeated the six-time defending champion Takeru ”Tsunami” Kobayashi by consuming a world record of 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes. This was after he had lost to Kobayashi in 2005 and 2006.
In 2008 he successfully defended his title by winning a five hot dog eat-off after he tied Kobayashi in consuming 59 HDB in ten minutes. Joey won his third consecutive title on July 4, 2009, after he beat Kobayashi again, by consuming a world record 68 HDB.
In 2010, Chestnut won his fourth consecutive Mustard Belt eating 54 HDB. It was a runaway victory as Kobayashi did not compete due to a dispute about his contract with Major League Eating. Chestnut won his 5th-consecutive championship with 62 HDB on July 4, 2011. He marked his 6th consecutive win in 2012 when he tied his own record from 2009 by devouring 68 HDB.
Chestnut got his seventh straight title eating a total of 69 HDB, in 2013 after breaking his previous world record. Later in 2014, he won his 8th straight title eating a total of 61 HDB. Although in 2015 he lost the contest to Matt Stonie, he regained the championship belt in 2016. He defeated Stonie by eating 70 hot dogs, this was 3.5 hot dogs less of his record-setting qualifying round.
On July 4, 2017, a year later he rose his record to 72 hot dogs and in 2018 he set a world record of 74 hot dogs. In 2019 he received his twelfth title with 71 HDB, despite not beating his previous record. Chestnut consumed 75 HDB, a new world record for the contest in 2020. He later broke his world record for the contest in 2021after he consumed 76 HDB.
