Who is DeMarco Morgan?
DeMarco Morgan is an American journalist who serves as a co-anchor of CBS2’s weekday 4:30-7:00 a.m. and 11 a.m. newscasts (CBS2 News This Morning). KCBS is the West Coast flagship station of the CBS television network, licensed to Los Angeles, California, United States.
Morgan started his on-air career covering the September 11 attacks while still studying for his master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. After school, he joined CBS affiliate WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi as a reporter. Joining ABC’s affiliate WISN in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2004, he co-anchored alongside Portia Young for three years. He later joined NBC station WTVJ in Miami as an anchor and reporter in 2007. Morgan later joined NBC’s affiliate in New York, WNBC serving as a weekend anchor. He also served as a cut-in anchor for MSNBC.
In January 2012, he moved to WXIA, NBC’s affiliate in Atlanta Georgia. There, he co-anchored the 6 P.M. newscast weeknights with Brenda Wood and reported for the 11 P.M. nightly broadcast. During his time in Atlanta, he also taught journalism classes at Clark Atlanta University and also Morehouse College when not on air.
He was the Honorary Grand Marshal two years in a row for the United Negro College Fund while in Milwaukee. He was also honored with several Associated Press and broadcasting awards. Morgan received the NABJ National Community Service Award in 2006. Joining CBS in October 2015 as a correspondent, DeMarco has reported for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms. He has done notable coverage such as field anchoring the Network’s coverage of Hurricane Harvey live from Houston for THE CBS EVENING NEWS. Morgan also reported on the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma. He also did coverage on Hurricane Florence and the funeral of Aretha Franklin. He also did deliver a series of reports on the United States heroin epidemic. Morgan was the first journalist on the air for CBS anchoring a special report on the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. He also secured an exclusive interview with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch on community policing.
He came to Los Angeles on May 6, 2019, as an anchor of the weekday morning newscasts, CBS2 News This Morning, alongside Suzanne Marques. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS employees made it not possible to use the CBS Broadcast Center. As a result, Morgan did select newscasts for CBS station WCBS New York and also also the CBS Weekend News from Los Angeles.
