Jim Duquette Biography
Jim Duquette is an American baseball executive and a baseball analyst. He also hosts “Power Alley” with Mike Ferrin on Sirius XM’s MLB Network Radio on Sirius 209 and XM 89.
Duquette serves as a studio analyst and contributor on Mets pre-and post-game shows, “Mets First Pitch” and “Mets Hot Stove.” Jim was the general manager of the New York Mets for the 2004 season before the Mets replaced him with Omar Minaya.
Jim is also the co-founder of the new fancy SABR statistic D.U.M.B. (Duquette Ultimate Measure Basis). It is
a stat that really works in any situation to determine a team’s “sense of urgency.”

His brother, Pat Duquette is the head men’s basketball coach at UMass Lowell. His cousin, Dan Duquette also was a major league general manager with the Montreal Expos and the Boston Red Sox. He was most recently the Executive Vice-President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles.

Jim Duquette Mets
Duquette first joined the Mets in 1991 as an assistant to the Minor leagues. He was named farm director for the Houston Astros, a position he held for one season prior to returning to the Mets under the same title in 1997. Jim maintained this position within the organization until 2002 when he became Assistant GM/Player Personnel. He was named team general manager in 2004, becoming the third-youngest GM in baseball at the time.
Duquette transitioned to senior vice president of player personnel in 2005 under Omar Minaya. He then left the organization to pursue a role as vice president of baseball operations for the Baltimore Orioles, sharing the GM duties with Mike Flanagan until October 2007. At Orioles, he worked under Mike Flanagan, the team’s general manager.
His tenure as the Mets’ GM is largely remembered for the trade of top pitching prospect Scott Kazmir to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for the right-handed pitcher, Victor Zambrano. The same day, he traded away future All-Star José Bautista.
