Jim Cramer (born James Joseph Cramer) is an eminent American television personality, author, and former hedge fund manager. He is the host of Mad Money on CNBC and an anchor on Squawk on the Street. He went on and worked for Goldman Sachs after graduating from Havard College and Havard Law School. And then became a hedge fund manager, founder, and senior partner of Cramer Berkowitz.

He worked in sales and trading at the New York investment bank Goldman Sachs in 1984. The following year, he was admitted to the New York State Bar but did not practice. On April 2, 2009, his license to practice law was suspended. This was after he did not renew his resignation.

He left Goldman Sachs and started a hedge fund, Cramer & Co in 1987 (later Cramer, Berkowitz & Co). The fund operated out of the offices of hedge fund manager Michael Steinhardt. Early investors included friend and Havard classmate Eliot Spitzer, Steve Brill, and Martin Peretz. Jim raised $450 million in $5 million increments and received a fee of 20% of the profits he generated. On the Friday before Black Monday (1987), he says he sold all of his stocks. He says from 1988 to 2000, he had only one year of negative returns – 1998, a year when the S&P 500 Index. The underperformance in 1998 led to significant investor withdrawals. In 2001, he retired from managing the hedge funds. The fund was then taken over by his former partner Jeff Berkowitz.
