It was also his 1st top 100 victory, defeating world no 98 Henri Laaksonen in the final qualifying round. He lost in the 1st round to eventual finalist, Maxime Cressy. Hijikata lost in the 2nd round of the 2022 Australian Open – Men’s singles qualifying. Hijikata broke into the ATP top 300 after winning consecutive ITF tournaments in California in March 2022 in April.
